DAY 1 – 2nd July 2022
Preston to Whalley – 27 miles.
Ascent 2,649ft
Stages 17 to 19 (C1 to C3) of the Central Loop.
The start was an early one, 8am from Preston Railway Station, and my first job was to put on my waterproof trousers. An auspicious start to a long walk!
There are no shops on route so stock up in Preston at the beginning of the day with food. There are two pubs on route for refreshments and snacks. These are the Royal Oak at Riley Green and the Millstone at Mellor.
I stayed on the route at Whalley Abbey – the perfect place to say. There are not always rooms available but please do try as it is quite special.
