DAY 10 – 11th July 2022
Lancaster to Dolphinholme – 23 miles
Ascent 1,967ft
Stages 29 to 31 (N1 to N3)
The day started off with a quick walk around Lancaster to find food for the evening. I was booked into the Green Bank B&B between Dolphinholme and Abbeystead. Being a B&B there was no evening meal and I discovered that the local (1.5 miles away!!) pub, The Fleece, was closed on Mondays. However, the B&B were happy for me to bring food and cook it that evening. They were also happy to pick me in Dolphinholme or Abbeystead. This is a useful tip when walking long distance paths. B&B owners are generally happy to help out with lifts if you cover their costs. In fact, I walked to the B&B as I decided that my route would continue along the northern side of the River Wyre rather than retrace my steps back to Dolphinholme and follow Stage 34. I joined Stage 34 at the footbridge over the Wyre after the descent through Long Wood.
The only downside with this plan was the extra weight in carrying food all day! There is a shop in Scorton but I did not want to risk potentially not being able to buy anything appropriate. There is also a cafe and pub, the Priory, which also has rooms.
