DAY 9 – 10th July 2022
Tewitfield to Lancaster – 22.5 miles
Ascent 1,822ft
Stages 39 to 42 (N11 to N14).
With adding Stage 38 from Over Kellett to Tewitfield, a modest 3.5 miles, to Day 8, Day 9 became a much more pleasant walk. Apart from the final 4 miles to Lancaster it has to be one of my favourite parts of the whole 400 miles. It was a lovely day too so hopefully the photos do this justice.
Silverdale has a Co-Op shop for provisions and a hotel, the Silverdale Hotel, if you wish to stay here. The George Washington Inn in Warton also has refreshments and pub food. I believe that you can also say here. Morecambe has many options for food and refresments.
I stayed at the Waggon and Horses pub on St George’s Quay on the route of Stage 42, just before the turn up to the Priory and Castle. I highly recommend it.

The view from just above Leighton Hall – one of the best in Lancashire and easily accessible from Yealand Conyers.

Descending from the view point to Leighton Hall with Morecambe Bay, the town of Grange and Arnside Knott in the distance

With the tide out the walk could enjoy the expanse of sand that is Morecambe Bay on the section from Warton to Hest Bank
