Below is a list of some famous Lancastrian’s – a bright bunch if I may say so and dominated by the arts with more than a sprinkling of humour. Inevitably I will have missed people and it does have a very contemporary feel to it so if you have more suggestions then please do send them to us! It is also difficult with past boundary changes to decide who does qualify as a Lancastrian or not. Gracie Fields is from Rochdale which is no longer in the county but was when she was famous so is included. There are many famous people from Liverpool and Manchester but would they consider themselves as Mancunians or Liverpudlians/Scousers before being Lancastrians? Probably and therefore the Beatles and the Gallagher brothers do not appear. Equally do you have to be born in the county to qualify? Sir Bradley Wiggins, a truly inspirational and international sportsman, now lives in the county, has done so for a number of years and certainly talks like a Lancastrian – should he be included? I am sure this page will bring with it some controversy but hopefully in a constructive way!
